Increasing Market Share

Increasing Market Share

[a text between significant others]

Him: From the deepest ocean floor to the highest brightest star, my love for you stretches both near and far. But that’s just the beginning and there is no end because my heart aches eternally for my true love, my very best friend.

Her: You ate all the quarantine snacks, didn’t you?

Him: Yes.

Many of us have more time on our hands to enjoy the parts of our lives that often pass us by. I hope you are taking “The Great Pause” as a moment to recenter and gather your thoughts on the more important things. For me, I have been taking the time to write and share these emails. It’s always been something I’ve wanted to do, however, I’ve always put it to the side. Looking back, I think that was my fear in my ability to construct sentences well. (How am I doing?) I’ve reached the point where I am facing my fear and leaving it behind me. (Insert crowd noise here!)

We are seeing an increase in voice calling, teleconferencing, live streaming, and other social interaction for distant socializing. What do we have to talk about with those on the other end? I know, a lot of conversations discuss business. However, those in our community with little to no work are communicating with old friends and family around the world. I find we mostly focus on subjects about, what has changed and what hasn’t? OR The “do’s” and “don’ts” of working from home.

In our home, we juggle with helping our two children complete schoolwork while getting our work completed each day. When two adults work from home and have two children homeschooling each day agendas can get complicated – quickly. I know NOW to ask myself, “Is it big enough to matter?” And more importantly, what matters to me?

One subject that matters to me is how I can help my network grow during this time or be in a position for growth as we come out on the other side. I had a phone call with my friend Jamey this morning. Jamey manages and operates a high-end countertop company in Charleston, SC. We shared in conversation the thought of what things will look like when we are all back to work and school is back in session. He tells me there are almost 30 of his competitors in town. The biggest thing he is focused on right now is market share. He is creating relationships through emails, phone calls, and client referrals. When Jamey’s contact wishes to have a deeper conversation they schedule a video conference to understand each other better through visual connection parlayed with the audio connection.

My challenge to you is how are you getting a larger share of your market? Here are three ideas for you to use while brainstorming:

  1. Audit your activities and ask yourself, Is it big enough to matter?
  2. What matters to me and who am I in my industry?
  3. What problems am I solving for people right now?

I feel this will help you understand more about where you can help your network and become a strategic partner through the good times and learning times.

I’m always interested in hearing about what you are doing. If we have spoken in the last few weeks, thank you. If you wish to chat more, I’d love to hear from you.
